Are we really that stupid?

I recently received a email from my brother-in-law concerning a poll showing that 63% of the American population don't believe in the Darwin theory of evolution. Here's the link. Being as staunch a skeptic as I, or maybe more so, he was concerned about the high number. How in the hell in the year 2009, coming up on the 40th fucking anniversary of the first moon landing could the number be so damn high? Could that many American people be that damn stupid?

Apparently this many can actually be that stupid or maybe just comfortably ignorant. My BIL is involved in research and polling on a professional basis daily. I'm sure he would not be promoting any kind of statistical information that was not from a respected and reliable source.

I personally feel that so many believe in the woo-woo world because so many of the practitioners and preachers of the bull shit resort to in Latin what is known as feces fabricatum. English translation: Make shit up. After all, making up shit in order to promote a viewpoint when you have no facts is much more polite that calling your opponent fat, or a commie. After all when you make up shit you can make it up to fit your audience so that they will like you and not think you are really the asshole you actually are.

Here is a link to a video in which a young fellow clearly and with no shame at all uses the feces fabricatum method of "proving" the truth of creationism. The rebuttal points of the narrator almost make you feel sorry for the poor kid. Oh hell, he's young. Maybe someday he will find a clue and come around away from the side of Magic and Imaginary Friends into the light of reason and logic. Or maybe not. In that case, fuck him.

Now if you want to spend a few minutes with a real comic genius check out this video of Ricky Gervais on creation. BTW if you are not aware of Ricky you should check him out. He is the creator and star of the original British sit-com The Office which evolved in the U.S. version by the same name.

A conservative atheist! WTF!

I have always considered myself to be pretty conservative with the exception of three areas. They would be atheism, pro choice and pro gay rights up to and including marriage. I see these three situations as being not as much civil rights as they are matters of religious freedom.

I have always been a believer in the U.S. Constitution and it's Bill of Rights. Anyone that makes the claim that this is a Christian nation and our laws are based on the Ten Commandments is either ignorant, a liar, stupid or all three. The first four commandments are absolutely religious law for all Jews and Christians. These four must be observed in order to be of either religion. They are pretty damned specific and have no wiggle room. The first four are in direct conflict with the Bill of Rights. The rest are either irrelevant or nothing new to civilization since they have been basic law in every society way before the Bible was ever written by men. Click here to go to a site that does a very good job of demonstrating this fact
OK, so most Americans say they also are in favor of the Bill of Rights. How do I claim to be conservative with such liberal views. Simple. These are about the only areas in which I lean to the left. If someone were to make a list of things that make one a conservative or liberal then being religious, anti abortion and anti gay rights would be on the conservative list and the opposite views on the liberal side.

In future posts I plan to show my conservative side as topics come up that I have strong feelings about or if I just feel like bitching about something that just pisses me off!

Since I also have a very good sense of humor I will be commenting on things I find funny or maybe just a little strange.
